We were on the top floor, with complete privacy, this light and airy room space has been tastefully and comfortably modernised and furnished with great taste and attention to detail. A very comfortable bed, plenty of sitting space, a generous walk-in shower as well as a large bathtub technically in the room, but cleverly screened. Handsome bookshelves with a fine selection of art books. There is a kitchen area with a sink, a good sized fridge with water, milk and orange juice, a kettle, Nespresso coffee maker and a toaster, as well as a little table and two chairs big enough to eat at. Our hosts made us very welcome and provided a delicious breakfast of home-made granola, fresh summer fruits, yogurt and croissants, but were also happy to give us bread to make our own fresh toast, and would have done eggs for us if we'd wanted them. The room was cleaned and made up to hotel standard during the day.

Exceptional.

Arriving in pouring rain, Vicky made me feel very welcome immediately. The whole building is stunning, with gorgeous decor and the whole experience to a very high standard. Lovely, pristine room with charming, homely touches (chilled wine/beer ready to go in our own fridge; luxurious, massive bed; snuggly dressing gowns; Clarins goodies; pretty cutlery; Nespresso machine and plenty of pods; gorgeous mood lighting; strong shower; smart TV; yummy breakfast delivered to our room at an arranged time; etc etc...).

This is clearly a labour of love, run with such care and professionalism. We will stay there if we are in town again, and have already recommended Montys to friends.

Utterly delightful stay - thank you.

What an absolute find! My friend and I arrived at Montys exhausted! It was pouring with rain and there was Vicky, coat & wellies on to greet us & help us unload the car - above & beyond I'd say! We were shown to our rooms downstairs & we were delighted, as they were so tastefully designed & the beds were so comfortable.
Vicky & Paul think of everything - Wine, O.J, tea, coffee - ensuite shower room, Clarins products to beautify, smart TV to catch up on all your favourites & of course a delicious breakfast delivered to your room at a convenient time. Montys is brilliantly located in Lewes for shops, pubs & restaurants, as everything is right on the doorstep, yet its so peaceful. We truly didn't want to leave - What a treat!

We just stayed in the best b&b I've ever been to. Monty's in Lewes really is a cut above the rest. Stylish rooms and excellent service, we didn't want to leave!

Vicky is a wonderful host, very kind and accommodating, she really made us feel welcome. She makes a fantastic breakfast too, which is all sourced locally.

We stayed for two nights in the downstairs room which had access to a little courtyard and it was found to be very comfortable, peaceful, with an excellent bed and stylish decor. The kitchen area was also equipped with some lovely items which really made it all the more special.

We will definitely be back. Stay at Monty's, you'll love it!.

Lewes is a delightful little town and your beautiful house a wonderful surprise!

This apartment is really lovely and you have thought of all the details that made the difference.

It’s a pity we have to leave, thank you so much.

Such a fabulous place to stay: a stylish, luxurious retreat in the centre of Lewes. Vicki is the perfect host and spoiled us rotten (again)! The combination of Vicki's attention to detail and warm welcome, the inspired and tasteful interiors, warm croissants every morning and luxury bathing products really sets this place apart! Highly recommended.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our night at Montys. It was the weekend of the Brighton Marathon and we couldn’t find a room in the city for love or money, so we hit on the notion of staying in Lewes and using public transport to get to our evening occasion. And what a great idea it was! If there was a star rating for B&Bs this would be up there as a five-star-plus.

What can I say about Montys that hasn't already been said by the many reviewers on here? It was just a great place to stay: a lovely room, very spacious and lots of nice touches such as the great selection of books to browse through and the thoughtful choice of toiletries. Vicky is such a lovely lady and nice to chat with. I am certain we'll be back.

We stayed at Vicky's beautiful place for 2 nights and it's been absolutely perfect. The room is gorgeous, perfectly decorated, ideally located in the middle of the town but very quiet. The owner Vicky is really friendly and so helpful too! We'll definitely visit again.

We could not have been luckier in our choice. In spite of all the rave reviews it really is impossible to do Monty's justice, you just have to go there to experience it for yourself. Vicky has created something entirely unique, a not quite hotel suite (much more characterful and inviting and much less pricey) not quite b and b (much more luxurious) not quite apartment (much more pampering) room at the top of her incredibly beautiful home. The room is huge and decked out with fantastic style and elegance but also manages to feel like a home from home at the same time. There are touches everywhere of Vicky's fantastic hospitality - bathrobes, beers in the fridge, beauty products, fresh flowers. Vicky and her family are wonderfully friendly and inviting but in an unobtrusive way which makes it simply perfect for a romantic getaway. We hope to be back again and again and will be recommending it to everyone we know. An absolute gem and truly the loveliest place we have ever stayed.

"Our special place...."
We returned to Montys for another stay and the room was exactly how I remembered it: spacious, airy, stylish and spotless. It was so good to see Vicky again. Thank you for the cakes, the lovely Nespresso coffees, the Clarins products and the lovely breakfast. We had such restful sleep and now feel really refreshed. It is a hard place to leave. We have been very lucky to come across this place and I am sure we will return again and again.
Anyone thinking of visiting Lewes, please stay at Montys if you want an incredible, unforgettable experience.

"Glyndebourne Retreat"
A beautifully appointed sanctuary in the heart of a pretty town. The facilities are very good and the owners are both helpful and unobtrusive. We would happily return and are currently looking for an excuse to do just that.

"Bedazzled"
I knew I was in for a treat from the moment I was greeted by a very friendly and welcoming Vicky (the owner). Vicky escorted me to my room at the top of the house. Where do I start to describe this sumptuous well laid out room or should I say apartment. Like a child in a sweet shop I didn't know where to look first. I was bowled over by it all. The modern 4 poster bed, the selection of beautiful books offering art, fashion, cities of the world etc. the roll top bath and separate shower room that included lots of Clarins products to pamper myself with. When I retired for the evening I sank into the very comfortable crisp bed linen and slept like a baby. Vicky arrived in the morning with fresh juice, croissants and homemade preserve which I enjoyed with fresh coffee. My only regret was that I hadn't booked extra nights. Thank you Vicky and Paul for your wonderful hospitality. I must return again sooner than later.

"Just lovely"
I chose this B&B as it had the highest rating on Trip Advisor, and it didn't disappoint. Everything the other reviewers say about the stylish, comfortable nature of the room is true but I also want to add that Vicky should blow her own trumpet a bit more on her website when it comes to breakfast. Not only did she provide the advertised muesli, orange, tea and coffee but also yogurt, fresh fruit and (day one) croissants and chocolate eggs, and (day two) toast and jams and delicious lemon cake. It's particularly lovely for lazy guests like us, that Vicky drops breakfast outside the room so you don't have to bother getting washed and dressed and going downstairs before eating. We also appreciated Vicky extending departure time a little. The room really is very hard to leave!

"stunning and spacious loft in the centre of Lewes"
Just returned from a wonderfully relaxing couple of days exploring Lewes, staying in accommodation that is very far removed from your average B&B.
Vicky's beautiful, centrally located townhouse was the perfect base to explore the lovely town and surrounding South Downs.
The bedroom is an extremely well presented, comfortable loft room. From beautiful exposed roof beams and industrial pendant ceiling lamps to the roll-top bath and contemporary four-poster bed, the room is very spacious and decked out in classy (but comfy) furniture throughout.
There's a great selection of art/design/photo books which we enjoyed browsing through (and would have sustained us very well if the weather had turned nasty).
Vicky was the perfect host, very friendly and welcoming - we felt right at home straightaway. She brought us a simple and wholesome breakfast each morning: fresh croissants, fruit, jams, yoghurt and muesli.
We'd recommend Monty's to anyone staying in Lewes who's looking for something a bit different from the usual - and we won't hesitate to book again next time we're visiting.

"Out of this world, best B&B ever"
I booked Montys for my husband's birthday and we stayed 2 nights. The location is fantastic and the parking space is definitely a bonus in Lewes. Vicky, the owner, was so friendly and helpful. She treated us like friends and we were instantly made welcome. The room is on the top floor of the house [although reading some of the older reviews - they mentioned a room in the basement, so I guess Vicky has decided to use the top room instead]. It is spacious and very chic, in very sense. The lovely roll top bath, the nice shower room, the designer coffee table, the industrial design ceiling pendant lighting, the thick towel, the soft bath robe..........
I can tell that a lot of thoughts have been put in when putting the room together. One special touch is that instead of a breakfast room like most B&B, Vicky will bring breakfast to us on a tray and there is a small kitchen area with a table and 2 chairs so we can have breakfast leisurely. Breakfast consist of yogurt, fresh fruits, croissants and jam. There is fresh milk, water, orange juice and bottle beers in the fridge, and museli is also available. Vicky has also got a Nespresso machine with capsules provided, what a nice touch!!!
I must confessed that I tried every single Clarins products she put out in the room, I felt proper pampered!!! We stayed only 2 nights but we have already decided to return this summer. It is just a shame that there is only 1 room as we would like to return with our friends. We might still return with our friends, instead of just the 2 of us, but you guess it, we will be staying in Montys and our friends will have to find somewhere else!!! Thank you Vicky for making our trip so special.

Had a lovely stay at Monty's over the weekend. It has a great central location, and lovely, beautifully furnished room which is more like a spacious studio apartment. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Lewes in the future!

December 2013

My partner and I stayed at Montys for two nights just after Christmas, when we were visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Lewes. We were really impressed by the quality of the accommodation and with the friendliness of the service that we got from Vicky. The room (more of a large studio apartment really) looks even better in the flesh than in the photos, it really is stunning and very stylishly decorated. The bed is one of the most comfortable that we have ever slept in anywhere, and the roll top bath is big and deep and very conducive to a nice relaxing soak. My partner loved the Clarins products, which are a nice touch. We also appreciated the other little details, such as the homemade cake that was there to greet us, and the beers, G&T and OJ that Vicky left in the fridge for us. It's nice to feel that you have your own space, rather than feeling as though you are staying in someone else's home - we didn't see much of Vicky and Paul as their part of the house is quite separate, but we always knew they were on hand if we needed them. Overall a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend - while it might set you back a little more than staying in one of Lewes's (not very exciting) hotels, it's definitely worth the extra few quid.

My boyfriend organised a surprise two night stay at Montys as an early Christmas present, for the 22nd December. And what a lovely surprise it was! The room is immaculate and stunning. We were awed by the impressive book shelves, roll top bath and gorgeous bed. The room is tastefully decorated and the Clarins products and slices of apple pie were lovely additional treats. As the room is so spacious and equipped with coffee/tea making facilities (the herbal teas were a nice additional extra), we felt truly relaxed and could unwind.
Vicky and Paul are great hosts, friendly and not imposing. The breakfast is adequate; I did have to ask for yogurt to go with my muesli as I don't like milk, however as soon as I mentioned this, I was immediately supplied with some.
Montys is a great base to explore the delights of Lewes and Brighton. We really enjoyed our stay in Lewes and can't wait to go back!

I stayed one night at Montys. This is not your average B&B. It is best described as a top floor flat in central Lewes. The large room is extremely impressively decorated, with four poster bed, roll-top bath, and power shower. There is even a kitchenette with fridge for simple self catering. Vicky was a very attentive host, leaving little details such as a G&T and cake as a welcome.
The location could not be more central and the B&B has a private car parking space nearby. I certainly wished I had reason to stay longer. Next time... Thank you Vicky for a lovely stay.

My husband and I have just returned from Lewes, having stayed at Montys for two nights. We were late, due to appalling traffic, but Vicky was extremely sweet about it, and had even baked some cakes and got a beer/g+t to welcome us (which were, incidentally, delicious). The room is simply wonderful: light, airy, beautiful and luxurious. There's a wonderful selection of art books, lots of recommendations for local places to eat/visit (we had supper at the Real Food Co., who were good), and there is the added benefit of a private parking space at the back (a massive advantage in Lewes). Breakfasts of muesli, fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice and fresh bread (still warm) were excellent. A non-caffeinated hot drink might be good in future, but the tea/coffee was fine.

It was simply a perfect place to spend the weekend, and we will absolutely be returning.

We stayed here for one night, and I wish i could have stayed for a week. The owner Vicky was lovely and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The loft converted room is just stunning! It's more like a 5* hotel. The owners have gone all out here, everything in the room is clearly top of the range, Chic, swanky, amazing interior design work here, great taste, fab gadgets, little chocolates for you, Clarins products, not what I was expecting so was totally over the moon! I loved the bath. No fattening fry up here either, strawberries/bluberries, museli, Yoghurt fresh juice etc all waiting for you in your fridge and a cheeky G&T (Nice touch) which I preferred, so it means you can get up when you like and eat when you're ready. Loved this place, I will be staying here again that's for sure! Loved everything about it. It was the best B&B in the UK i have stayed in.

We just had a fantastic restful weekend- just what we needed. The room is great, even better than the pictures – just as well as it poured with rain for most of the weekend! We got some top tips from Vicky on places to eat and had delish food at the Pelham Arms & Limetree Kitchen.
Thanks

After battling through snow and seasonally poor transport from London to Lewes, my boyfriend and I were greeted with the warmest of welcomes from Vicky, owner of Monty's. The beautifully stylish loft room also did not disappoint. It was cosy, classy and equipped with all mod-cons necessary for a weekend away.

We were treated to fresh croissants for breakfast and lovely fruitcake when we returned from a fabulous winter walk on the South Downs. From the super-comfy four-poster, to the surround-sound music system and (my personal favourite) the roll-top bath; this accommodation was 5* hotel standard. Monty's is also well-situated for some great pubs and restaurants and we would have no qualms about recommending it to friends and family! Thanks again
